NEWS - November 2012

LADIES GUILD/LWML

YOU MISSED A GREAT MEETING IN OCTOBER!!!
We had 17 ladies who found out “What Great Drivers” we are for our age.  Listening to all of the women, I came away thinking we all have to be very aware and careful when we are on the road.  Tom Micone gave us some things to look for when driving and tips about driving the freeways, AND answered a lot of our questions.  He also got us thinking about when it is time to limit are driving to around town and maybe think about not driving at all. The DMV goes a long way in helping you make that choice.

I want to thank all who helped with the LWML Service and Pastor for his great sermon. We are a strong group of women when we join together in our “Purple.”  And all those beautiful banners that you see in the church, Anna Oates has made.  Thank you Anna.

At our November 14th meeting, the Chaplain from Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital will speak to us about his ministry.  Come join us. Devotions will be led by Majil, and our hostesses will be Marga Liller and Diane Koppenjan. See you all in November.

Mary Albrecht, President

LADIES BIBLE STUDY

How do we deal with the burdens and cares of our families when debilitating diseases strike?  The idea of praising and thanking God as energies dwindle makes it extremely difficult.  Nevertheless, God, in His Word invites us to give thanks in all circumstances… I Thessalonians 5:18: “He promises comfort and trust.”

Join us Tuesday, November 20th at 1 p.m., in the Library as we study

“In All Circumstances”
(lesson 2, page 18, in the Fall LWML Quarterly)

Joyce Shuster will provide coffee and a delicious dessert following the study.  Pastor DelCol will be leading this study due to my absence.

In Christ,
Alice

Psalm 145:1-3 ... I will exalt you, my God and King; I will praise your name for ever and ever.  Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever. Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.

NEWS FROM THE “Hangout”

Welcome to another year at the “Hangout.”  We have been so busy this year. I didn't do much advertising this year just to see how it would go.  I put one ad in the paper and left it at that.  To date we are seeing over 200 students a week.  We are starting off with numbers we ended with last year.  I think we are pretty much maxed for the number of students we can see.

One big push this year is adding outreach to this mix. We have had meetings to discuss how best to accomplish this task.  Some of the things that have been discussed are a movie night for kids and families, cooking classes and healthy eating styles for families, and music. It would be great to have a “Hangout” band.  It's all such a slow process.  We do have the people interested in heading up these projects so that's a big plus.

The “Hangout” crew also continues to push forward working, working, and working.  I have never seen such a dedicated group of people.  It is quite a commitment to be at the "Hangout” every single week.  We are so lucky to have these people with us.  Thank you all so much for all you do!

Again, this year we have the Republican Women coming in every Thursday and donating healthy snacks.  This group brings in feasts made up of healthy foods.  We have sandwiches, fruits, cheese and crackers, and vegetables.  A huge thanks goes out to these ladies.

We also continue to get a lot of food from the people at the Food Bank, who are very supportive of the “Hangout.”  We get juices, cheese, fruit, crackers, chips, and various other things.  We get whatever is available that week.  We never know what they will be offering.  We take what we can get.

We have had some expenses this year. We had to replace the ping-pong table.  We also needed to make more room by taking out the riser and leveling the floor.  We had to do some major work on the air hockey table.  After three years I guess you can't expect things to last forever, especially as much as they are used.

I want to thank everyone for all the support and words of encouragement. There are some weeks that words of encouragement are certainly needed.  Any donations that you can help out with are certainly appreciated more than you can ever know.  While the Republican Women and the Food Bank are a help, they do not supply all we need.  But more importantly, they are not our church family.  The “Hangout” started off as a church project to help our community, expecting nothing in return.  We have accomplished that task, kept it going, and grown the numbers.  Now phase two, Outreach.  We must have our church family to do this.  Your support is something we need. Thank you for all that you have done.

In His name,
Pat Novak
